Just so you know starting off, Derringer is one heck of a band. They guys have gone through some changes this year with more than a couple of leading ladies in their midsts. They are strong and talented as a foursome and are quite capable of handling a night on their own. Luckily, they won't have to. It looks like they have found a perfect gem in Danielle Carlomusto. I must admit, this lady has a lot of style.

I walked into the Diamondback tonight as Derringer was just leaving the stage for a set break. I heard about 1 minute of Danielle's singing, and already I was looking forward to the next set. During the break, I talked with Russ, the Saloon's owner, and he expressed excitement about his newly hired songbird. Russ said he auditioned close to eighty singers before making his choice. He then introduced me to Danielle, and there is no doubt, she had me from "hello". This 24 year old has more spunk, more energy and just pure pizzaz than nearly anyone I have seen in a long time. She has pure audience appeal. It didn't hurt her standing with me one bit either when she told Russ and myself that she found out about the need for a singer at the Diamondback from DetroitCountryMusic.com. She instantly knew who we were and she proclaimed (quite loudly actually)" I love that site". (ok, back to the review) Derringer started their next set. Aside from Danielle's strikingly good looks, she has that "extra spark" that people are always looking for in an entertainer. Danielle adds a great presence to the guys' style. It's how she walks, how she acts and the obviously pure love she feels in what she's doing. You can tell it comes from deep down in her bones. Considering tonight was her first night after receiving the song list from the guys she did and OUTSTANDING JOB. From Patty Loveless to Faith Hill, she covered it all.

So grab the gang, kidnap a friend or bring your lady down and have some fun at the Diamondback Saloon. The Diamondback is located on the 1-94 service drive between Belleville and Rawsonville roads in Belleville. Derringer plays Wednesday-Sunday evenings.      Larry Garcia 09/10/03
